Autumn Gold...

WHEN THE NIGHTIME'S OVER
When summer green leaves
turn to autumn gold...
When the nightime's over and
daylight filters through to dawn.
That's when the cats come home
and the butterflies are born.
That's when the birds sing loudest
and the frogs spawn.
When summer green leaves
turn to autumn gold that's
when the party's over.
Or so I've been told!

  1. I'm not sure I think the last line fits with the tone of the poem. Besides that I think it was truly melodic.

  2. Thanks writerwomen, It's one of those poems I re-wrote from memory, I think it may have originally been two different poems. And yes, the last line was a sort of after-thought. I rhymed gold with told for some reason. Anyway...

  3. I've found the original poem, it's called First Light and it doesn't even mention Autmn gold or summer green leaves - they must come from a completely different rhyme.
    FIRST LIGHT.
    When the night times over
    and daylight filters through
    to dawn.
    That's when the birds
    sing loudest
    and the butterflies are born.
    That's when the night owl
    turns in
    And the cats come home.
    When the night times over
    and daylight filters through
    to dawn..
