NaPoWriMo 2011 Day Thirty

WAITING FOR APRIL SHOWERS
Sitting here waiting for the rain again
again and again I plead with the gods
god of rain I say please make it pour forth
forthrightly I beeseech you where you sit.

Wonderful weather brings all kinds of noise
noise that shakes the house to the foundations
foundations vibrating in annoyance
annoying me, and that's not wonderful.

Please, Eudora please, Zeus please send us rain
rain down on the just, just like the fallen
fall out from rain clouds otherwise blue skies
ski-daddle the noisy noise makers please.

May I have more rain than April showers
showers that will come with the first of May.

HABITAT TICKETS
People buy tickets for most things these days
days at the races, football, and baseball
baseball boots, basketball, and basketballs
balls to kick and balls to throw at people.

Jon bought a ticket to fly to the moon
money well spent, said the salesman, I bet.
Better get your cup final ticket quick!
Quick quick quick, before they all sell out Jon.

No invitation to the royal do?
Do you want one? There's this bloke on Ebay!
Ebay Joe, they call him, Weddings & co.
Come on, put your hand in your pocket, no?

Habitat tickets for the spoil wedding
Wedding nun's trying to kick the habit.

UNDERSTANDING ALICE
Understanding is the beginning of confusion
the more I think I understand
the more confused I become.

Love is like that sometimes, it befuddles you
just when you think it's safe to say boo
a gooseberry hits you on the head.

Who was it that said:
Never say ...
oh never mind!

Of course confusion could be
the beginning of understanding
take the chaos theory for instance.

Or scalextrics, subuteo and Alice?
I never could fathom them out either.

NaPoWriMo 2011 Day Twenty Seven

The words this week at Three Word Wednesday are:
Foolish, Relish, and Mercy.

Here's my attempt:

ETERNITY MELTS
Woden's day, woe betide the evening
Even now while the day is young there's death
Death without mercy for the numberless
Numberless, nameless nations of Woden.

Even though we wish it not so so soon
So soon it will come without mercy, death
Deathly death and the foolish are afraid
Afraid like Virginia Woolf even?

Yet there is life for us to live today
Today, tomorrow and beyond to hell
Hellishness of hell the foolish relish
Relishing the blood without mercy yet.

Eternity meets time externally
Externally melts time, eternity...

YO BRAVO

Nic spells it out and shouts in frustration
frustrating me too, tarred with the same brush
brush strokes for beginners, alphabet blues
blue words for fingertip spelling with Nic.

Repeat after me, and do it like this
this is the best way to do it for her,
her sight has gone, and she can hardly hear,
hearing is so difficult, I repeat.

Alpha beat a gammer with a stick, no
no, no, that's the wrong alphabet, geek!
Geek: it's all Greek to me, he starts to shriek!
Shriek and you shall find, what's after alpha?

Bravo, Charlie said, and dealt her echo
echo of new fangled things, yo bravo!

NaPoWriMo 2011 Day Twenty Five

Original post Day 25 2009

I got the inspiration for this twin poem from two sources
Firstly from a prompt I saw on
readwritepoem:
‘A woman left a poem for the milkman instead of a note.’
And secondly from the
Saturday Scribes prompt:
Write a twin poem. With the theme; ‘What we need.’

My Mad Method: I wrote two poems, 1, a note for the milkman,
2, a little love poem. Then I cut out each line with a pair of
Scissors and randomly reconstructed the poems, the result is below.

WRONG NOTE
I wrote a note For the milkman
Two pints of sterra For the acrobat
A bokkle of orange To take to work
A pint of Jersey milk For her cornflakes
And a dirty big carton Packed with cream
Not the whatsit fingy Not that thin stuff
But the proper job Deep Devon clotted
A lump of sugar A slice of saffron cake
To suck in the rain The Hog’s pudding’s rising
This is a wish list
But somehow you know He got this poem instead
What we need is this I love you when I wake
I love you when I ache I love you in the morning
You’re my favourite Cup cake, butter fingers
If the truth be known

PURGATORY PERHAPS?
Paradise for those that can see beyond this place
for those that can hear and respond to what's being said
purgatory perhaps, if you can't glean the words
shady as hades on a day that's hot as hell
shadow dancin' fairies, their wings catching the light
but she can't see them now, or maybe only she
can see them in her minds eye, as she switches off
and tunes in to a much greater reality
than this hear paradise that we think we can see.

How to play
The American Sandwich game
:
Write a piece of flash fiction in just three American Sentences.
Allen Ginsberg's American Sentence has seventeen syllables.
Your task is to use as few words as possible to fill the sandwich.

Here's mine:

WILL MY LOVE
I carved a message on your tree, I put it there for all and sundry.
A heart, an arrow, and my name linked to yours, perhaps eternally.
Maybe, I should have waited, will my love be reciprocated?

lambs to the slaughter, tambourines banging
banging like dogs barkin' - waiting for rain
rain dancin' while the genius waits on

NaPoWriMo 2011 Day Twenty One

My Ghazal attempt as prompted at NaPoWriMo.net

Here's one I wrote some time ago from a slightly different set of rules to the one I wrote today.

LATE AT NIGHT
There's someone like you that he likes to meet late at night.
She puts on her face and her dancing feet late at night.

Late and later all the better he loves to date her,
dancing to, rocking to, socking the beat late at night.

The beautiful truth comes out when she opens her mouth
to speak in his ear, and her smile's so sweet late at night.

Close and closer all the better, he loves to get to
her red hot body, he can feel the heat late at night.

Natasha is dancing, she rewinds her mind, only
to find, that her lover is such a cheat late at night.

NaPoWriMo 2011 Day Twenty

I got the idea for this one from the NaPoWriMo site:
Today's challenge is to write a poem about something you've overheard.

So, I've cobbled together a few phrases that my Grandmother frequently used:

DO THE CHARLESTON
Such a pity Kitty
Nutty as a fruitcake
Sitting there like Piffy
Now't to do for gods sake

Lolling on about Harry
It's as clear as a pikestye
He's happy as Larry
If he could see me cry

There's nothing I can do
As sure as eggs are eggs
As soon as look at you
Rattling on about pegs

When Harry's back at sea
Do the Charleston with me

NaPoWriMo 2011 Day Eighteen

Brenda W offered the following words as a wordle: recounts, crude, crescendo, sprouting, flattery, message, perfume, forever, inept, scars, phrase, silver.

Here's the thingy I made from it:

CRESCENDO
She's sprouting like my silver nutmeg tree
but why the hell did she delete the phrase
that message wasn't meant to be so crude
the way that she recounts it anyway.

Sure flattery will get her everywhere
but she best leave that perfume in the drawer.
She's so inept at making up to me
those mental scars forever on her mind
that stifle the crescendo of her scream.

BANG BANG BANG
Hey, I wanna put a bit of fun back
Like Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid
When they went for a job as payroll guards
And the old mine boss asked them to
Shoot some tin cans off a wall
They took aim fired and missed
The old man said no way Jose and started to walk
Butch called after him can I move now Mister?
What you mean move? said the old guy
Spitting out his chewing tobacco
Butch and The Kid drew their six-shooters
Bang bang bang the cans flew up in the air
And they shot 'em down again before they landed
You got the job boys! when can you start?

NaPoWriMo 2011 Day Fifteen

The prompt at NaPoWriMo.net is to write a sonnet.

STOLEN LOVE

What is it that you want and why ask me
Why is it that you always have to leave
I don't envisage half the things you see
And when you go will you leave me to grieve

Each day you spent with me in the garden
Seemed like a lifetime full of stolen love
I remember when we were just children
And you would climb high in the tree above

The apples that you threw down to the ground
Confirmed your love for me and made me smile
How I wish that those days were still around
And we could take the boat out to the Isle

I sit here waiting for you to return
Till past midnight and watch the candle burn

NaPoWriMo 2011 Day Fourteen

SPINNING FREE
Since you said that you loved me
like a fool I believed you
I wouldn't want to argue
'cos you know better than me
I'm writing this to tell you
that the world is spinning free
round and round my head it goes
up and down where no one knows
why does it do that to me
why do you allow it to
you're the one that I adore
since you said that you loved me

NaPoWriMo 2011 Day Thirteen

FOR DAY THIRTEEN: THE BAKER'S DOZEN! OR: UNLUCKY FOR SOME?

THE BAKER'S DOZEN
Every baker's dozen makes me wanna bake
Bake a cake, to take to kindergarten...
Kindda makes me wanna make one to eat
Eat it all up! All the good boys do that...

Rapunzel! you really must eat it all
All the cake on the plate, and when you're done
Down another one if you like, only...
Only then you'll have to make thirteen more.

Zustellung to them, those grim kids at school...
School children will like to eat them like this.
That is if we bake 'em at the hotel!
Hotel baking always tastes much better.

Eat it all up! like the good boys do now...
Now you know that this will last for ever.

About the FlameThrower!

FLAME THROWER
I've been writing these daft poems for a couple of years now and the best name I can conjure up for them is FlameThrower! I have done several versions of them, but I think I may now have a form.
THE SEVEN STANZA FT
There was one I wrote for last years NaPoWriMo, that I really liked, but at seven four line stanza's, I think it's not quite what I'm looking for as a form. It was a bit different from the ones I've been writing this April because each four line stanza was a complete mini-flame-thrower by itself.
ACROSTIC FLAME THROWER
Some of the recent FlameThrower! posts I have made, like Coincidentally have had an acrostic word inbedded in them. I also toyed with the idea of an acrostic anagram, but I think that may well be a bridge too far.
HOW MANY LINES?
The other inconsistancy, is the fact that some of my FlameThrower's are twelve lines long while others have fourteen. In the case of the seven stanza FT there are of course twenty-eight lines.
However, I have decided that my FT's look best with three four line stanza's and a two line conclusion, giving me a total line count of fourteen.
EACH LINE
Each line has ten syllables, that's always been the case and that's the way I think it should stay.
CONCLUSION?
So what's the conclusion? Well the problem is, I haven't reached one yet. I intend to write a few more samples of the FlameThrower! form before the end of this April's NaPoWriMo, and after that I will publish my conclusion sometime during the first week of May.

NaPoWriMo 2011 Day Twelve

NAPOWRIMO.NET
The Day Eight prompt at NaPoWroMo.net was to write a nursery rhyme. 4 to 6 lines, 3-5 accented syllables per line (don’t worry about making them iambs or dactyls or what…as long as your lines are short), and of course, a rhyme or two.

Here's my attempt:

COLONEL GADAFFI
Colonel Gadaffi had the will
to slaughter his own people
he drove a tank to knock them down
and tied them to a steeple
12042011

And here's one that I wrote for my son Jack about seventeen years ago:

LITTLE JACK BATTY.

Little Jack Batty
Sat on a tatty
Eating his Ploughman's Lunch
His breakfast all done,
And his dinner to come
And said, 'What a nice bit of brunch!'
Previously published in Proper Trog and other Nursery Nonsense...

Brenda put a wordle together for todays prompt.
Laugh, Corrugated, Gloomy, Hovels, Words, Feeble,
Crucial, Hum, Cobwebs, Dandelion, Scrambling, Ash.

SHOUTS FROM THE TOP FLOOR
Scrambling over hot Parisian coals,
the heat underfoot making his feet bleed,
He stumbles on the ash in the attic.
Taking a slurp of dandelion soup.
The corrugated cardboard cut-out girl
at the counter starts to laugh as he hums.
Words escape as she sings a feeble song,
the cobwebs vibrate in the gloomy room.

It's crucial that these hovels be demolished soon!
a do-gooder shouts from the top floor of Modigliani's house.

NaPoWriMo 2011 Day Ten

The prompt at Sunday Scribblings today is Befuddled.

SHE CAN LAUGH
In the cobwebs of her mind
she can see to tell the time
if she could walk like you and me
she'd ride a bike and learn to ski
she writes the words that others read.

She builds castles in the sky
she knows the flowers by their smell
then today she said to me:
You know the grass is really green
and I can smell a yellow flower
is it growing on the ground
or is it hanging off a tree?

I told her that I saw it too
It's beautiful, a dandelion
there's more than one there's two or three
they're all growing on the ground
and there's blossom on this tree.

She said she's going to Africa
to feel a Water Buffalo
on a touching safari.
Mystified and befuddled
I asked her if she likes Giraffes?
That's how I know that she can laugh.

VARIETY
Variety can be incredibly
Incredibly boring and totally
Totally not the spice of life, random!
Random conundrum, humdrum universe.
Universal explanation varies
Variety can be incredibly
Incredibly boring actually.
Actually not more than nothingness
Nothing could be worse, less even than more.

More more more! they clamour expecting all.
All or nothing that's what they want, nothing.
Nothing plus nothing makes variety.

GUESS WHO?
Guess who? but you know who you are don't you?
You yeah you don't wanna talk to me now!
Now I know you don't. No! 'cos talkin' hurts.
Hurts behind your mind, penetrates your soul.

Your soul that you inhabit that you love.
Love her like you told me you loved me once
Once when all in the garden was rosy
Rosy, red, rouge, where are you hiding now?

Now I know you don't. No! 'cos talkin' hurts.
Hurts like the hell fire that you've put me through
Through the mangle until I'm almost flat
Flat enough to post myself back to you.

You yeah you don't wanna talk to me now!
Now that you've got it all, but me, guess who?

TIME LINES
You've got a terrible cough, she told me.
What about your cerebral sneeze I thought.
If only things were different, if only...
If only I had stayed back there, back then.

The grass is always greener, she mumbled.
Tuning in to my procrastination.

But what does she know of my other life?
Why should she care, she will never go there
Never spend time on a different line
She's not that sort of girl and she knows it.

So why does she have to sneeze me back here?
And pour that cough medicine down my throat!

NaPoWriMo 2011 Day Three

WELCOME
Okay it's day three of Napowrimo already, and I'm worried sick about going to the hospital on Tuesday, surgeons always recommend surgery like butchers always want to sell you meat. I wrote the piece below before I checked last years Day Three offering, and there's a remarkable similarity in the style. Phew!
ACROSTIC
acrostic in this format would be crude
crude as the oil that makes those men rich
rich like they say they need to operate
operate in a makeshift surgery
surgery for any fool they can take
take out his organ or that one or if...

if this is the way that they do it crude
crude as a rhyme that thinks it's a sonnet
sonnet surgery in operation
operation that nobody needs now
now listen we need to operate now
now is the time while you're still young enough

enough is enough I can't see the time
time to forgive and forget acrostic

NaPoWriMo 2011 Day Two

Here's a little song that I offer for Day Two.

ETERNALLY

eternally through time I'm still falling
falling out with you 'I love you lady'
lady of the night please take my candle
candle wax will stick like glue - me to you

you know I love you I already said
said more than you wanted to hear I'm sure
sure as eggs are eggs - don't poached just beat fried?
fried rice and steamed veg followed by some pud!

pud would be good on a night that's this cold
cold like your heart and the soul that you sold
sold your body sold your mind to someone
someone else that is, never to me though

though you now know that I would take you home
home to my home with me eternally
Repeat
