ONLY THE LONELY
(WOULD SAY THAT, SHE SAYS)
She says, I’m waiting for you to respond
Respondez vous I’m still waiting for you
You and the monkey, I saw in the zoo
Zooted and booted and out on the town
Where are you going at such a late hour?
Our little love nest that no one can guess
Guess who said that, at the Music Street ball?
Balancing on the gym bench in the hall
We met in Swan Lake, across from the pits
Pitiful picturesque cinema joke
Joking that only the lonely would go
Gone with the wind, These foolish things, and you…
Everyone’s friend, Shakespeare said: Dream on!
Only the lonely would say that, she says

I love this poem - or whatever the rejection-slip-writers make of it. :) There's something unpredictable about every line here - and that's what makes me happy as a reader. Hope to read more :)
