Day Twenty
bones, twice, stolen, water, rocking, open, mess,
aches, bridge, sink, sway, limb, sharp
aches, bridge, sink, sway, limb, sharp
UNDER THE BRIDGE
Under the bridge I’d love to
meet you again
But what a rotten mess I must
confess
Though aches and pains cannot
make me complain
You kissed me once you kissed me
twice oh yes
Make no bones about it you will
be mine
But when you read this letter
don’t reply
Rocking back and forth in my
arms next time
Under the bridge where jilted
lovers cry
What is love if not stolen anyway?
And now’s the time for our love
to be bold
The lies you told me once caused
me to sway
Limb from limb sink or swim the
water’s cold
My open arms are waiting for
your love
Please don’t be sharp with me my
turtle dove
What a beautiful ode to that turtle dove..bridged can feel very empty when we are rocking alone and waiting underneath..tender writing on this Sunday
ReplyDeleteWhat a delicious line "What is love if not stolen anyway?"
ReplyDeleteThere's something about bridges that are alluring to lovers. Something deadly as well. I'm trying to decide which is which in this poem. Meanwhile, good job!

A lovely sonnet.... with a dark side. Thanks for whirling with us!
ReplyDeleteYou rhyme quite well. You have more courage and patience than me unless they just come for you - in which case I cordially hate you.
ReplyDeleteA plaintive cry - but was it heard?
ReplyDeleteLove is always persuasive to make it work. Wonderful write Danny!
ReplyDeleteHank
Somewhere, about half way through, I felt the jerk that told me this is not a love poem, but rather a promise of the karma kind. The unloving things you do will come back and be done to you. Which makes those final lines quite chilling.

Oh Andy, I like where the Wordle words took you.
ReplyDeleteWonderful and very, very romantic! *deep longing sigh*
ReplyDeleteBrilliant poem Danny
ReplyDeleteLovely and romantic, Andy. Well done with the words.

You always manage to fill your verse with images!
ReplyDeleteVery romantic, specially the place for sonnet - under the bridge
