NaPoWriMo 2017 Day Thirty

DAY THIRTY

CARROT CAKE
Carrot cake she wants to bake it
Scream /Shout it from the chandeliers
For him football was the big hit
Fizzy stuff champers bubbly cheers
She only wants to treat her man
With a folding bed that’s broken
Rock ‘n ‘roll in the caravan
Water gas electric tokens
It’ll be alright on the night
Who’s joking who now - don’t you know?
Joshua beat Klitschko in the fight
One summer day it starts to snow

NaPoWriMo 2017 Day Twenty Nine

DAY TWENTY NINE

TOOTHPASTE ISN’T
MADE FOR TASTE
Lovin'
you’s
what
set
me
free…
Nothing else was meant to be
You know that as well as me

Some
say
love
was
meant
to
hurt…
Different strokes for girls than boys
Don’t go making all that noise

Haste
post-
haste
you
set
me
free…
Surely love was meant to be
For my love as well as me

I
really
didn’t
mean
to
hurt…
It’s just that we seem such a waste
And toothpaste isn’t made for taste

NaPoWriMo 2017 Day Twenty Eight

DAY TWENTY EIGHT

THE RHYMES GET WORSE
Eating my way back into your life
Said Oversize Lisa Mabel
As she stuck the machete deep
Into the cheesecake on the table
The sands of time shifted sideways
And covered a multitude of sins
He was blind in the one eye
With telescopic vision in his shins
The asphalt stars are made from stone
The chewing gum scars the pavement clone
The cycle lanes stream like rivulets
With cyclists screaming down the phone
The rhymes get worse than Oscar’s ballad
So stick that in your chicken stew
Cucumber sandwiches all round
And another round or two too few
Bicyclettes and Penny Farthings
All the old bikes made for romancing
Like the ballroom in the tower
Roll on the happy hour dancing
Loving this the way it goes
Eating cake under her nose forever
The prison mentality
Sitting outside on the street together

NaPoWriMo 2017 Day Twenty Seven

DAY TWENTY SEVEN

BINGALOO – WAITING FOR THE NEW DAWN
Bingaloo who do you think you’re talking to - move over out my way
Say what and talk for anywhere that starts with Saint - not Helier though
Some of us have lived a charmed life forgotten more than most others know

Jersey was like that – stay there long enough the whole world would come to you
Don’t you just love Islands especially when the sun shines the whole day through
Sitting on the beach whiling the day away - waiting for the new dawn

Bingaloo who do you think you’re talking to - move over out my way
Say what you must about the situation that you find yourself in
Some of us ought to know better by now - sixty’s the new forty five

Jersey was is and always will be my favourite place in the world
Don’t you know that something is happening to us both right here right now
Some people will never know what we believe or where we are going…

Bingaloo who do you think you’re talking to - move over out my way
Bingaloo who do you think you’re talking to - move over out my way

NaPoWriMo 2017 Day Twenty Six

DAY TWENTY SIX

LOOKING FOR A LOVER
Happy as Larry I think we’ve said that before sometime somehow when?
She searches the internet looking for the perfect partner skew whiff
Online dating dotty as Daisy she drives herself crazy looking

She finds him eventually draws him in sucks him up knocks him sideways
He like her is just such a fool no one can win in this dating game
She goes to the gym and lives on protein shakes looking for a lover

You can’t buy peace of mind no matter how proactive you are Shirley
It’s been a while, so glad you contacted me, I knew you would one day
Trouble is the roubles I had have been devalued now like beetroot

Everybody’s in the same boat stuck up the creek without a paddle
Floating with the tide no control over the direction it takes them
All rivers lead to the sea all roads lead to Rome my heart leads to thee

NaPoWriMo 2017 Day Twenty Five

DAY TWENTY FIVE

RETROSPECTIVE?
Disillusioned this time there’s no going back and it’s all downhill now
As cold as a refrigerator - colder - as cold as a freezer
I bury my head in the sands of time she sits inside the fridge freezing

She was hot once just for a moment it must have been something I said
Although she should take a butcher’s in the mirror it must be my fault
I can only blame myself now sometimes it has to be down to me

One has to take responsibility can’t blame her for hating me
No one hates anyone life is not like that - sometimes it’s just perspective
Retrospective? no not me - I’m forward looking as can be - et vous?

She puts all the names in a hat and shakes them - mine falls out - hits the floor
Trodden underfoot like the pub quiz crib sheet - nobody can win now
The headaches are coming thick and fast - quick quick slow - breathe another breath

NaPoWriMo 2017 Day Twenty Four

DAY TWENTY FOUR

CAPICHE?
Idiotic as yesterday was I can’t help myself anymore…
One word follows the next becomes a sentence and so the story grows
I get entangled dangling there like a lemon in an orange tree
The words you speak are from a different language - talk to me full on

Tell me something exciting about yourself (if you want to) maybe
Semantics are as romantic as fishing in a rusty old tub
There’s nothing funny about talking to someone you don’t know at all
Hey how old are you? perish the thought, you really look ten years younger!

Hold the full stops period and exclamation marks dot dot dot ker pow!
Corned beef hash sweet potato mash and a dirty great big plate of chips
Eating yourself to death bursting out of your triple fm size shirt
Here I am throwing maggots for you /at you as you fish in the tub

We’ve been ‘dating’ for three whole paragraphs now - where do we go from here?
Your beach or mine red or white wine coca cola would be fine capiche?

NaPoWriMo 2017 Day Twenty Three

DAY TWENTY THREE

SINKING IN CANDY FLOSS
Talking crazy to crazy fools and cool
Life’s a hustle - hustle bustle - trouble
and strife but that’s life in the big city
Just
      when
you
      think
that
      you
know
      what
she
      wants…

All hell breaks loose and the dirt hits the fan
Wonderful as a non-beach holiday
Sitting in a caravan by the lake
Sinking in candy floss to the armpits

Just keeping your head above the water
Who really cares about the future now
Which way is up when everything is flat
Is she still whispering sweet nothings phew

Never knew –
                      didn’t understand -
she cared
You’re too late baby blue you’re much too late

NaPoWriMo 2017 Day Twenty Two

DAY TWENTY TWO

NOBODY CRIED
The day the messages dried up
The site went down and the pigeon died
Nobody cried they just took it all in their stride
One giant leap for mankind one small step for man
But perhaps a bridge too far
Fantastic but fun like the funfair was
In nineteen sixty-one before anyone
Had ever heard of The Beatles
Ain’t She Sweet and all that rock ‘n’ roll
That was about to come
Of course rock ‘n’ roll wasn’t new
Look at Elvis and Chuck Berry
To name a couple or should that be a phew
Anyway don’t you just love live music
And the hand jive and all that jazz
And whatever happened to The Who
Not the doctor - who’s there - knock knock
And all that silly twaddle but the band
Not the banned - that’s probably The Stones
Or The Rolling stones that you’re thinking about
Or possibly the dammed hell fire and damnation
That’s where we’re all heading if we don’t buckle up
And/or knuckle down soon
But of course there’s nothing we can do about it
Of ourselves we just have to trust in Him
That has done it for us and secured our salvation

NaPoWriMo 2017 Day Twenty one

POOR GIRL
Noodles she had it in oodles

NaPoWriMo 2017 Day Twenty

DAY TWENTY

FANCY PANTS NANCY
He gives and He takes we all mistakes
Horses for courses on different days
The way the egg breaks it’s all pains and aches
And nobody remembers September

Oh yesterday’s gone there’s no hanging on
But they say what goes around will still come
Scratching hypodermic needles and pins
So who knows what this September might bring

Go tickle tackle fancy pants Nancy
Everything’s up like a drone in the air
Sitting on top of the shelf looking down
Watching the tic on the old clock go tock

Binge drinking trying to forget she’s gone
Get ye back to the mushroom picking farm

NaPoWriMo 2917 Day Nineteen

DAY NINETEEN

DRINKING GUINNESS
Drinking Guinness in The Cuan
Women waiting standing queuing
Holding folding betting slips
With Grand National day tips
Vicente my horse fell – rueing
From Strangford to Portaferry
Everybody was so merry
I drank Guinness she ate well
At Portaferry Hotel
Strangford Lough on Strangford Ferry

NaPoWriMo 2017 Day Seventeen

DAY SEVENTEEN

WELL - THINK
Well some watering holes don’t hold clean water what can we do but dig down deeper everybody knows that Africa is a continent but who didn’t tell you about the hidden places deep down under the ocean there’s another world down there man where people like you and I go to live instead of die why wouldn’t you want to know about it why wouldn’t you want to go there if you could many do but some don’t I don’t know why they don’t want to I can’t understand the mentality at all of course you can take a horse to water but you can’t make him drink so I guess you can bless someone with an imaginative tale but you can’t make him think well some watering holes don’t hold clean water what can we do but dig down deeper everybody knows that Africa is a continent but who didn’t tell you about the hidden places deep down under the ocean there’s another world down there man where people like you and I go to live instead of die why wouldn’t you want to know about it why wouldn’t you want to go there if you could many do but some don’t I don’t know why they don’t want to I can’t understand the mentality at all of course you can take a horse to water but you can’t make him drink so I guess you can bless someone with an imaginative tale but you can’t make him think

NaPoWriMo 2017 Day Sixteen

DAY SIXTEEN

SOME AWFUL DISEASE                                                                                       Down in the basement
with the cold damp air
they put me there to cure me
Cure me from some
awful disease that they
imagine that I’ve got
Gothic style revival
like Manchester town hall
couldn’t make me well
Wells of water spring up
from underground lakes
until they fill my soul
Soul power versus faith
rejecting belief
in anything but self
Selfish as a troglodyte on heat
clubbing people with a big stick
Sticking to the same old
made up story that no one really believes
Eve’s coming to the party
to celebrate and eat a lot of cake

NaPoWriMo 2017 Day Fifteen

DAY FIFTEEN

JUMBO JOE’S
Resurrect the cake lady
She wants to feed me,
Make me fat like her
Fatter even, so that she won’t lose me
To some beauty queen again
She sends me cakes, morning noon and nightly,
Naughty cup cakes every day
Who could eat them and stay slim
Without going to the gym, Jumbo Joe’s
Chocolate cake and lemon drizzle
With New York cheesecake in the middle
So pat-a-cake baker Sam
She bakes me a cake as fast as she can
She makes it on the kitchen table
With love she kneads it more and more
She’d knead me too
If she didn’t have a need to feed to fatten me
She’s got one in the oven always,
Sometimes in the stable doorways
Samantha the crazy lazy cup cake lady
Wants to smother me

NaPoWriMo 2017 Day Fourteen

DAY FOURTEEN

DRIVING
Driving waiting for something to happen or not
She throws a butchers hook at me
I catch it out of the corner of my eye
She clocks me looking at her and goes all coy
Did you enjoy the movie she asks at last
Yes I reply comedy films are my favourite
She’s got a nice face but she’s as high as a kite
She looks away and keeps on driving
We must be nearly there by now it dawned on me
It’s almost daylight I said out loud but she didn’t hear…
Back at the hotel I say goodnight and lock my room
The guy next door is snoring - blowing the paper off the wall

NaPoWriMo 2017 Day Thirteen

We can smell roses where only thorns grew - God has a plan for you too...

DAY THIRTEEN

GOD LOVES YOU
I can smell roses where only thorns grow -
God has a plan don't you know...
Since not thinking about you - (don't moan)
some of my butterflies have flown…
Like little birdies up in the sky
your kind words gave me wings to fly...
We can smell roses where only thorns grew -
God has a plan for you too…

NaPoWriMo 2017 Day Twelve

DAY TWELVE

NEWS IN A DAY
Relieved at getting the news in a day
Peace floods my being so soon after the crash
I already knew before she told me...
Walking on air floating like a balloon

Tomorrow is never too late to start
Irons in fires means that someone will get burnt
You would think that I should now that by now
Opportunity is not the last chance...

The ditch is deep and very very wide
Jump off the bridge and see if you survive
Peace floods my being so soon after the crash
Relieved at getting the news in a day

NaPoWriMo 2017 Day Eleven

DAY ELEVEN

ULSTER FRY
And maps and apps don’t move like people do

Freshen up and smell the roses
Talks for Ireland down the entry
Eats Wheaten Bread and Ulster Fry

NaPoWriMo 2017 Day Ten

DAY TEN

TELE-PHONEY
Beautiful she can’t stop Talking
Loving everybody walking
All her time is taken making
Sweet tele-phoney-phobic calls
I’m clinging climbing up the walls
Still waiting for her at the halls

NaPoWriMo 2017 Day Nine

DAY NINE

MOVE OVER CASANOVA
I’m standing on a chair hiding my eyes
High up above the traffic flow below
The skew whiff Albert Clock still goes tic toc
Where satellite dishes litter the streets
I’m looking at a city that is clean
Take pity on graffiti scrawl on walls

Back in the box (until she lets me out again)
Will she come out to play today?
Or will the magic fade away? And die!
Like some dead body walking on my grave
She’s got more luggage than an airport carousel
And I don’t know if I can juggle it too well

Oh she’s breaking my heart like yesterday
She’s pulling me to pieces anyway
And jig-saws aren’t her thing to fix me up
It’s all gimme the candy and be gone
Get back in your box with your cricket sox
Move over Casanova not tonight

NaPoWriMo 2017 Day Eight

DAY EIGHT

HOCKEY STICKS
She thinks I’m fatter than my photo
So maybe if I won the Lotto...
Dating apps and hockey sticks
Hits my cricket box for six
She makes me feel like Quasimodo

Miss Suffragette of the internet
With her neat little shampoo and set
Now we'll never be together
But I wish her well whatever
That beautiful girl I won't forget

NaPoWriMo 2017 Day Seven

DAY SEVEN

THE NEXT NICE LADY
She says she thinks about me like I think
Ink was thicker than blood since yesterday
Daydreaming about her when the phone rang
Range Rovers outside the Rovers Return
Turning into taxi’s for the Street’s cast
Astute as the next nice lady she smiles
Miles versus kilometres so who cares
Scare me half to death why don’t you lady
Ladybarn is a place in Manchester
Chester is another city close by
Buy one and get one for half price not free
Freedom is sometimes not quite real she says

BUNTINGFORD TOWN FC
SLID MARS  (REVEALED)
Buy one and get one for half price not free
Turning into taxi’s for the Street’s cast
Freedom is sometimes not quite real she says

NaPoWriMo 2017 Day Six

DAY SIX

RUTH’S BICYCLE
Down below deep down under the pavement
Entertaining Ruth was not that much fun
Fundamentally everything was wrong
Hong Kong was never as tough as this gig

Gigantic as the buildings seem they fall
Autumn comes at the same time every year
Tears can’t stop uni-ted from happening
Ingenious as imagination

Station after station one stop closer
Seriously digging under the road
Broad as the highway may be it still hurts
Ruth’s bicycle would never go that fast

Aston Villa were a big club back then
Hen parties stag nights down below deep down

NaPoWriMo 2017 Day Five

DAY FIVE

BETWEEN COURSES
Counting bricks and talking between courses
Pointing out different things about them
Is it a cavity wall or solid?
When was it laid and is the Brickie dead?

Would you like some pudding or just coffee?
The appetizers were really tasty
I’ll take the fillet steak medium rare
And a side salad with cheese; hold the fries

The Weavers cottage had Flemish bonding
Except the chimney stack was clad with slate
So why did they render the gable end?
And whoever painted the old front porch?

I’ll have the chocolate button cheesecake please
And a nice cup of your milky coffee

NaPoWriMo 2017 Day Four

DAY FOUR

RED WHITE AND BLUE
Today is no different just longer than yesterday ever was
It lingers like the aftershock of ginger in the mouth down and out
Trick or treat tents without tent poles and international flags for sale
What colour is the union jack a foreign student asks the salesman
They’re red white and blue son the flag shop barker replies laughing at him
Can I have a blue one asks the student holding out a ten pound note?
The blue ones are more expensive me old china why not have this one
He shoves a small red white and blue union flag into the student’s hand
That’ll be just nine ninety nine - there you go – give the man a penny

NaPoWriMo 2017 Day Three

DAY THREE

AS DARKNESS FALLS
The clear blue skies are clouding over now
The afternoon half moon floats like a kite
Merges with the grey clouds as they go west

The spring sun felt red hot against the wall
The morning came and went turned afternoon
Of course the Motorola music blared
All the usual suspects and their cars

As darkness falls the TV chef appears
Wok cooking crazy with chopsticks to boot
Fried sweet chilli veg garlic and ginger
The full works right out there under the arch

I lock and bolt both the front and back doors
Pull down the shades and put up the shutters

NapoWriMo 2017 Day Two

DAY TWO

TONGUE TIED
Tongue tied falling asleep
It gets better as the day goes on
Belfast is a million miles away
But the air plane is coming
And I have to fly and face the music
It will all be worth while
Smile a little take off and smile…
Somebody’s been planning this for ever
I really don’t want to let them down
Dreams come easy but reality fails
I’ll be there whatever the weather

NaPoWriMo 2017 Day One

 DAY ONE

FASTIDIOUS
Faster than fastidious
She ran in and out of my life
Words bigger than marmalade
New worlds other worlds imaginary places

There was no stopping her
She ran wild with everything I owned
She tore the doors from their frames
The plugs from their sockets
And the candy from my pocket

Still she wants more and she’s not letting up
She’s got friends in high places
With their sights set on me now

NaPoWriMo 2017 Introduction

INTRODUCTION

Welcome to NaPoWriMo 2017, in some ways it seems much more than a year since I last took this thirty day challenge, in other ways today is more like a continuation of previous years.
So, please let me wish all who are taking part this year a 'Happy NaPoWriMo'...
