From 2018...

Something I wrote in 2018...

PURPLE HAZE

He beats and bangs her drums until she comes

And flaps his wings and flies around the room

His winkle-pickers tapping to the tune

He introduces her to rock 'n' roll

He strips and bares his soul and starts to sing

Some people do seem to have such strange ways

When she begins to weep his guitar plays

Some people say this world is just a maze

He tells her that there's nothing much to do

And we're all living in a purple haze

Friday like any other Friday but

It's Friday the thirteenth and that means that

Strange things happen even stranger things are

Forecast ask Hitchcock and Castro et al

Don't listen to the things that people say

And all the Different Ones born on that day

He beats and bangs her drums until she comes

Backflips and flaps his wings and flies away

IMAGINATION

Sinking further and further into the mire

deeper and deeper into the same old swamp

no one really wants to go there but a philosopher

I met told me that not only were we all born in sin

and therefore fall short of the glory of God but

that we have been sent to this earth as a punishment

for something bad that we did elsewhere

So it doesn't matter what you think if you think you

are what you think then you are what you think and

nothing is going to change that in the short or long term

but there is of course another realm that you can access

when you mix thought with imagination he told me

Laughter happiness and imagination are the three best

things in life but the greatest of these is imagination

wherever your imagination goes you can go too the

imagination in the mind of man knows no bounds it frees

us from the limitations that are otherwise pressing us down

DAY #12

UNCLE WATER

The women here are very beautiful while the men are some of the most handsome in the world the women brush everything several times a day tables chairs floors pathways driveways everywhere you look someone is brushing something or someone and tomorrow they will brush it/them all over again I just want to brush under the table Uncle they tell me and studiously they go about removing every grain of rice that I have just accidentally dropped there and the cat didn't get to fast enough what they don't realise of course is the amount of dust that they are creating no wonder I've been coughing my guts up ever since we first arrived here the dust from the constant brushing and the emissions from the traffic all add up to make a sore throat really really painful have you taken your medicine today Uncle they ask and give me a couple of pills to pop just in case I forgot to take them then they say would you like some tea or coffee Uncle water please I tell them but they always ignore me and bring coffee anyway I wait for it to go cold and then I drink it but it's oh so sweet everything over here is sweet ever so sweet even the fruit growing wild outside has a devilishly fruity sweetness to it but don't knock it there's fruit everywhere no one's going to starve this week or next and there'll be steaks for all hanging off the branches in Tiny Tree before we know it

INTRODUCTION

GLOBAL/NAPOWRIMO 2022

MY FOURTEENTH YEAR

Hi Everybody, it's that time again already where you can take the challenge of writing thirty poems (one each day) during the thirty days of April. As always, I would like to take this opportunity to wish each and every participant a very happy and creative Napowrimo. I won't be following Napowrimo prompts this year or fishing for comments, I will simply be posting a poem a day on my StraightTalkingStreetTalkingSweet bloggage at sewina(dot)blogspot(dot)com

Happy Napowrimo,

Andy

MY INTRODUCTION POEM

Here's mine:

WELCOME TO PARADISE

With the power of love and a sound mind

the children can play outside without fear

Here we go again sideways sometimes

sitting on Brown Sugar Beach

Watching the tide come in

waiting for the two suns to rise

(you have to be up early to see that happen)

up before daylight out before dawn

it's all won or lost by six in the morn

The strawberry scented ocean lapping the shore

never smelt so good as this before

Welcome to Paradise but some people

don't think that way the grass is always greener

on the other side of the pond they tell me

however I know that I know they don't know

For me this Island is the one and only Tiny Tree

the place where I've always been

the place where I will always be

My here and now on Earth taken with a pinch of salt

a hardwood honey dipper dripping honey

onto an overflowing glass of apple wine

stirred and shaken mixed with imagination

Blended into the unreality of time an eternal past

a present and a future shouting bawling screaming

the here and now from the rooftops

So your children and mine can play without fear

with the power of love and a sound mind

Day TWENTY NINE

LOST POEMS

Writing 'em down on scraps of pink paper

lucky bags and old sweet wrappers

(that'd be a good name for a band)

lost poems multiple house moves

floods kitchen sink drama's

Trying to recall what the billboard said

as I sped away in my old Cortina

I pushed her up a gear or three and

my baby began to simmer

who wants to have a dogs dinner

not me not you no thanks

Love the way the soundbites

come flooding back but the context

along with the original piece is lost

I'm an ordinary feller der da der der

I'm and ordinary guy der da der der

Der der der der der der der

I remember the tune but forget the words

Whatever happened to total recall

photographic memories et al

reporters notebooks and Indian ink

They talk about the cloud these days

a great place to save and store your thoughts

I'm still living on cloud nine

looking for lost poems

cuckoo land where the two suns shine

Day TEN

NUMBERS NINE TO ZERO

Nine to zero multiplication

manipulation contemplation

if you know the numbers you may

or may not be held to account

Some say that zero is the most

important number not least

the mathematicians Mesopotamians

and the morticians of this world

The Martians know a lot about zero too

as do the mickey takers mischief makers

and all in sundry to do with munitions

frightening as it might seem zero is not zilch

Ballyhoo Old Bamboo one and one and one

is three or one hundred and eleven or just one

depending on how you divi it up take a butchers hook

add some zero's and watch it change again

Compliance reliance don't complain if five plus five

is ten how many times can you multiply it and

divide it into infinity eternity conformity to carnality

and back to banality as brutal as your sudsless soap

Numbers nine to zero come in ground control

just clearing Cloud Nine now bombing it with tomato plants

and onion seeds Double O Seven is paragliding down

shovel in hand to dig the ground Pluto is the promised land

Napowrimo 2021 Intro...

NAPOWRIMO 2021

INTRODUCTION

It's napowrimo time again, the challenge is to write thirty poems, one for each day in April. This will be my thirteenth year and you can read all of my previous entries on this blog. You can search the internet for prompts if you think it will help you with ideas for poems and you can post your work to numerous sites if you crave feedback. So, Happy NaPoWriMo enjoy the challenge.

www.sewina.blogspot.com

Here's a little something to set the mood, Exodus prompted by Nimfa Gabuyo Sewina.

EXODUS

eventually everything turns to dust

long ago perhaps in a time that is now lost

nasty creatures roamed the earth

preying on lesser life forms

in a wilderness of shame or did they

who really knows what happened

before the dawn of time

some say that raging seas covered the planet

others argue that glacial ice blighted the land

one man's riches is another man's rust

and the fact is that theory is fact unwrapped

dangling there like the emperor's new clothes

but nobody really knows why would they

but it seems the wicked world is still intact

or so they the great unwashed tell me

and heading for a brilliant fall ,as the globe warms

climate change will always be with us

rainbows and umbrella's can't stop a hail of bullets

it's the same old yarn hook line and sinker

beer before breakfast exodus no not yet

Ice Age Revisited

 IF THE TRUTH BE KNOWN

Something happened before the ice cream man came
to town and all the earth froze over
speculation intimidation and other words
screaming off the pages some hyphenated
punctuated with exclamation marks
long before commas and full stops were invented
many describing worlds of words bigger than marmalade
and with more letters than a pillar box
on the last posting day before Christmas
so when the fishing smacks went down
some say that dinosaurs roamed the earth
and different types of humanoids evolved
but shut the door what really happened
if the truth be known nobody really knows
except for the fact that something went very badly wrong
demonic degenerates dignitaries with holes in heads
shrunken brains an unevolved species of plant eating mammals
living in the canopy of trees others underground some in caves
a warring world of hand walking acrobats
clamouring to eke out a basic existence
screaming without words self strangulation
an unintelligible language of frustration
pretending to be something that was never meant to be
individuals living in a counterfeit universe
the copy-cat intellectuals of the pre-dawn
fighting for the right to be heard to be seen
to be who they were wrongly told that they were meant to be
the parallel universe planting thoughts upside down inside out
outlandish as a troglodyte on heat
who would have thought that eternity
had anything to do with all their mess
but time or the concept of it that we now know and use
the time that we keep and rely upon didn't yet exist
the different ones came and went some stayed
buried forever in the quick setting sand
for us for you and I to discover rediscover dig out of the clay
for us to adjudicate upon contemplate and marvel at today
but even in a perfect world not many barber shop quartets
butchers bakers or cake makers would ever find the truth

napowrimo 2020 #28 coronavirus 30

BEFORE THE PANDEMIC
his world was made of whopping great lies
under the blanket he had cupboards full of them
tin cans rusting at the base sugar and flour stuck to the shelves
huge puddles the shape of England eating holes in the floor
stacks of bills for electricity and gas that he never used
I went to his house once about a week before the pandemic
about a month before he jumped off the bridge
It took me a while to find his place hidden deep in the forest as it was
I spent the day with him and he asked me what day it was nearly twenty times
somewhere under the bed he kept all of his secret things
way down in his inner consciousness below the concrete floor of his mind
was a perfect memory of all that he had seen and done
for people like me who found this hard to comprehend
he said the brain is just for thinking but the memory is where it's all at
that was the only time that I met him
I was happy to get out of there before the lockdown started
it all went pear shaped not long after that

napowrimo 2020 #18 coronavirus 23

CORONAVIRUS PERSONIFIED
We've spoken about the word world war before
what comes next and what to do for best
when they thought we'd won world war one
another fifty million or maybe more died
the following year from the Spanish flu
What ever are we going to do
when we all start dropping like flies too
things were never like this before
four five six or maybe more perhaps
Vivid dreams with nothing to cling to
screaming into the primordial soup
indifferent as rapid eye motion
past conditional responses up front
Infectious as genetic disorders
congenital imperfections undone
mysterious happenings de rigueur
Thought projection now you're talking
literally virtual reality
psychoanalysis self harming
Scientific academic failure
antibody immunity vaccine
vaccination inconsideration
illness coronavirus personified

How we evolved?

THE GULLIBLE MULTITUDES
maybe or perhaps not but some say
that the aliens emerged from the sea
others of course maintain that evolution
is what it was all about
then many years later as technology became available
telescopes and cameras were deployed on the moon
and aimed at the earth to record all that they saw

but time out there isn't the way we see it down here
therefore what goes up may or may not come down
and the future might not start after the present
much like the past is more than likely
not necessarily before the present day
in fact there are no different days out there
all days and or nights for that matter are exactly the same

and it's cold I mean really cold but nobody grows old
and nobody dies they just float off to another place
to a new existence exponentially through the roof
if they had one if you know what I mean but they don't
and won't get it any more than those that thought
that humanoids evolved from sea creatures
or perhaps aliens that had splash landed in the oceans
of the world and eventually crawled ashore

no one really believes anything any more
they simply accept what they have or have not been told
the great unwashed the gullible multitudes
give me your money I'll come and collect it
if time doesn't exist what are we doing here
waiting for morning and going to work
why do we bother scrimping and saving
for a day that may not even rain

and the Moonsters out there are filming Genghis Khan
and the Great Wall of China
and one day not that there are any days out there of course
some of us are going to go there and crash land on the moon
and bring the recordings back to earth
so everybody will finally know what really happened
and won't have to rely on or believe in
the supposedly recorded history of our planet

but you won't really want to travel there by rocket
if I were you and thankfully I'm not you or anybody else
that I know or perhaps don't but believe me I would wait
until new space technology has been developed
something safer and faster or maybe you should go fishing
with that metal detector you stashed in the attic all those years ago
and bag yourself one of those alien craft that litter the ocean floor
it's only a matter of knowing where to look
or perhaps to hook it if you dig and don't get wet just saying

Day Twenty-Four

DAY TWENTY-FOUR

SEED SUCKERS
Talking to the nattering mind thought chatter battering the soul They say it's good to talk but mad to answer yourself back but what do they know Doktir Q Doktir Zee Doktir who? Nairobi Ian Biro Eternity Tiny Tree Just when you think it's all over it starts again the same thoughts the same pain and of course the same insane old nameless names Why do they do that? They must think - sorry they don't think - I forgot they haven't got a brain that works like that Remember what we said many moons ago? The anagram of Eden is need Success is all we need to succeed There's a lot of seed suckers out there trying to pull the wool over the eyes of the proverbial what's his name? Thingy? Talking to the nattering mind thought chatter battering the soul They say it's good to talk but mad to answer yourself back but what do they know...

Day Fifteen

DAY FIFTEEN

WHAT THE FUTURE HOLDS
We don't know much about what the future holds
but the future holds more than we don't know now
revelation is progressive some say repressive
but they're the great unwashed...

Those that continue to hope in a brighter better future
will be rewarded with a greater sense of fulfilment a
heightened sense of awareness and a love
that empowers all things...

THE SECOND SUN
The sunsets in the west every night the second sun sets right behind the first - one night three red flashes appeared to come from the second sun then a flash of red lightening streaked across the darkening sky

NaPoWriMo 2017 Day Twenty Eight

DAY TWENTY EIGHT

THE RHYMES GET WORSE
Eating my way back into your life
Said Oversize Lisa Mabel
As she stuck the machete deep
Into the cheesecake on the table
The sands of time shifted sideways
And covered a multitude of sins
He was blind in the one eye
With telescopic vision in his shins
The asphalt stars are made from stone
The chewing gum scars the pavement clone
The cycle lanes stream like rivulets
With cyclists screaming down the phone
The rhymes get worse than Oscar’s ballad
So stick that in your chicken stew
Cucumber sandwiches all round
And another round or two too few
Bicyclettes and Penny Farthings
All the old bikes made for romancing
Like the ballroom in the tower
Roll on the happy hour dancing
Loving this the way it goes
Eating cake under her nose forever
The prison mentality
Sitting outside on the street together

NaPoWriMo 2017 Day Twenty Seven

DAY TWENTY SEVEN

BINGALOO – WAITING FOR THE NEW DAWN
Bingaloo who do you think you’re talking to - move over out my way
Say what and talk for anywhere that starts with Saint - not Helier though
Some of us have lived a charmed life forgotten more than most others know

Jersey was like that – stay there long enough the whole world would come to you
Don’t you just love Islands especially when the sun shines the whole day through
Sitting on the beach whiling the day away - waiting for the new dawn

Bingaloo who do you think you’re talking to - move over out my way
Say what you must about the situation that you find yourself in
Some of us ought to know better by now - sixty’s the new forty five

Jersey was is and always will be my favourite place in the world
Don’t you know that something is happening to us both right here right now
Some people will never know what we believe or where we are going…

Bingaloo who do you think you’re talking to - move over out my way
Bingaloo who do you think you’re talking to - move over out my way

NaPoWriMo 2017 Day Twenty Six

DAY TWENTY SIX

LOOKING FOR A LOVER
Happy as Larry I think we’ve said that before sometime somehow when?
She searches the internet looking for the perfect partner skew whiff
Online dating dotty as Daisy she drives herself crazy looking

She finds him eventually draws him in sucks him up knocks him sideways
He like her is just such a fool no one can win in this dating game
She goes to the gym and lives on protein shakes looking for a lover

You can’t buy peace of mind no matter how proactive you are Shirley
It’s been a while, so glad you contacted me, I knew you would one day
Trouble is the roubles I had have been devalued now like beetroot

Everybody’s in the same boat stuck up the creek without a paddle
Floating with the tide no control over the direction it takes them
All rivers lead to the sea all roads lead to Rome my heart leads to thee

NaPoWriMo 2017 Day Twenty Five

DAY TWENTY FIVE

RETROSPECTIVE?
Disillusioned this time there’s no going back
and it’s all downhill now
As cold as a refrigerator - colder - as cold as a freezer
I bury my head in the sands of time
she sits inside the fridge freezing

She was hot once just for a moment
it must have been something I said
Although she should take a butcher’s in the mirror
it must be my fault
I can only blame myself now
sometimes it has to be down to me

One has to take responsibility
can’t blame her for hating me
No one hates anyone life is not like that -
sometimes it’s just perspective
Retrospective? no not me -
I’m forward looking as can be - et vous?

She puts all the names in a hat and shakes them -
mine falls out - hits the floor
Trodden underfoot like the pub quiz crib sheet -
nobody can win now
The headaches are coming thick and fast -
quick quick slow - breathe another breath
